Mary is the retired founding dean of the Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies at Rice University after 31 years of service. She was the first woman at Rice to lead a school. Shortly after her retirement, she received the Association of Rice Alumni Gold Metal Award. She currently serves on the executive committee of the board of the Association of Rice Alumni, the Friends of Fondren Library board, and the program committee of the Houston Botanical Garden. She maintains an active interest in food, restaurants, travel, jogging, reading, popular culture and politics.
