Behind the Scenes of “Lady of Agreda”
March 20, 2020 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 am
Marley Singletary, writer and producer, and Brice Lumpkin, director, will tell us about “Lady of Agreda”, a musical coming to Queensbury Theatre at CityCentre, March 12-April 5, 2020.
The “Lady of Agreda” (also known as “The Lady in Blue”) is based on the true story of Sister Maria, a 17th Century nun in Agreda, Spain. Her interaction with the Jumano Indians of West Texas through visions and dreams has created the stuff Texas Legends are made of. She had appeared to them long before the Spanish missionaries had arrived. She survived two Spanish Inquisitions and is now held in the highest esteem in Spain, and is being considered for sainthood. She captured the heart and attention of King Philip IV, and while most of her writings have been burned, the 600 letters to and from the King were saved by him. This musical is based on those letters. It is written by Marley Singletary, and directed by Bruce Lumpkin, former TUTS Artistic Director and seasoned Broadway director. The beautiful music and lyrics are written by Cynthia Jordan (“Jose Cuervo”1983) and last year she performed it for the Pope in the Vatican.
